Phone Number Decoding
Analysing phone calls and the associated numbers are one of the major applications for the use of Daisy.
At the time of the demise of Barings Bank some years ago, one of City of London customers was worried that they might be peripherally involved. So they took the phone log and analysed it with Daisy to see if there was any unusual traffic to and from Singapore.
There was not!
But there was a large number of calls to another city not routed by the internal network. On checking these calls, it was obvious that the reason the the external routing did not lie with anybody at the company, but a badly programmed switch!
The savings in call cost was substantial!
This application also illustrates that often with Daisy and other analysis programs, that the answer you get may not be the one you expected.
Look at the 'Telephone Calls' example, which shows how phone calls and numbers can be analysed.
Daisy has several mapping formats, which are specifically designed for analysing phone numbers :-
