Applications - Names and Addresses

Look at the Text mapping formats in Daisy and you will notice many formats specifically geared to Name and Address Databases.

These include the following mapping formats and many others, specially for this type of database.

  1. Last Word is invaluable for mapping by surname.

  2. Street Name removes any leading numerics from the data.

  3. Post Code, Phone Area, Phone Exchange and Phone Number can be used to split the data appropriately.

Note that some of these mappings are country dependent and you must set this correctly.

  4. Soundex will map names to the same node, if they sound similar.

A Daisy customer has a large database of people who receive regular payments several times a year. There has been a number of problems in that individuals have died or moved, and possibly there has been some fraud.

They have solved the problem by using Daisy to search for suspect records in their Payment Database, which are then exported as Excel worksheets for each individual area of the country. These are then E-Mailed to local investigators to clear up the problem.

One of the advantages of this method, is that the local investigators only need to be trained in Excel, rather than in complicated data mining techniques.
