Relational Web Reports, Speed

Assume that you are looking at a page containing details of flight arrival times at an airport on the Internet.

Speed and response will be important to you in two areas :-

  1. The time for the page to be displayed.

  2. How old is the information that is displayed.

When using Daisy Relational Web Reports as each page is already created and stored on the server, the downloading of the page will be faster.

How much faster will depend on the time it takes to create it.

On the other hand conventional techniques such as ASP will always display the latest data.

A lot depends on how important it is that the data is 100 % up-to-date and how often it changes.

Note though that Daisy can be called to recreate the reports every time the database has been updated, using ActiveX.

Returning to the flight arrivals, where the database would be updated every minute or so and the new HTML Pages might take a couple of seconds to create, the 'update and create' method would give both a fast access time and the latest data.

Many systems can be made to work this way, without the need for a complicated ASP server.
