How Can I Change Node Size in Daisy Charts?

All changing of chart parameters is performed in Draw Chart in the Draw menu.

Use the Setup button in the Node Style section of this dialog.

Change the node size by adjusting the ratios that link it to the radius of the Daisy Chart.

How Can I Get Histograms on Nodes in Daisy Charts?

All changing of chart parameters is performed in Draw Chart in the Draw menu.

To get Histograms in a Daisy Chart, first set the node style to Histogram.

Then click on Histogram Format to bring up the dialog box, which sets the format, style, scale and limits for Histograms. Choose the values you want to graph and then set their scale.

Note that for some charts, it may be necessary to change the ratios of the chart. Set these in the same Histogram Format dialog box or under Node Style.

How Can I Save and Retrieve Chart Settings?

The settings used to create a Daisy Chart can be saved in templates. These are files, usually with a .dyt extension, that contain all Mapping and Aggregation Fields, Selections, Limits, Formats and the other data, needed to recreate the chart.

Templates are created using the Save Template command in the Draw menu.

Templates are retrieved using Get Template.

See the Template section of this FAQ for more details.

How Can I Show the Names of Nodes in Charts?

Daisy chooses a suitable size for the node font, when the program is started. Normally this will be 6pt. Arial, The legend font is 10pt.

When there is not enough space to show all of the node name, then Daisy shortens the name to see if it can be fitted. If this doesn't work, then no name is shown.

If names are not being shown, first check the fonts. In Draw Chart choose Node Format. The fonts are set from this dialog box. Check also that you haven't asked for no names to be shown.

Is there a Standard Daisy Chart?

Daisy does not have a specific Standard Chart, as each database will have to be mapped in a slightly different way. However, there are a set of simple rules that can be used to draw a first chart in most databases. They have been programmed into Daisy under the command Quick Chart Setup in the Draw menu.

  1. Identify two, three or four important fields in your database, that you want to map.

  2. Map text fields as simple text. Order the values using Options to Records in a Descending Order.

  3. Map date fields as either Month-Year or Day of Week. Choose one that gives about ten to twenty values.

  4. Map numeric fields as either Partition or something like Thousands. Again aiming for about ten to twenty values.

  5. Assign a limit of say 25 nodes, using Node Limit and the Show First option.

  6. Set the Node Style to Histogram and then use Histogram Format to show the Number of Records as a histogram on each node. Use the scale of Zero to Max.

See the Daisy Manual or the Index for more details.
